Navy Veteran and DPS State Trooper Tyler Edenhofer, 24, of Phoenix AZ was killed in the line of duty July 25th.
Edenhofer graduated from Jeffersontown High School in Louisville, KY in 2012. He enlisted in the Navy immediately following graduation and was stationed near Guam on the USS Frank Cable as a hull maintenance tech, having completed his training as a welder, in hopes of one day advancing to under water welding.
Upon completion of his service in the Navy, he decided to move back to Arizona to be near his mother. After working as a welder in the public sector for a short time, he decided to enroll in the Arizona State Trooper Advanced Academy, where he graduated as a member of class #508.
He was on the job for a total of 52 days, when on his last shift as an "officer in training," he and his training officer responded to a call on I-10 near Avondale, and was shot by an assailant who had gotten a hold of another trooper's weapon.
Edenhofer is survived by his parents, Debbie Edenhofer and Keith Welscher; Stepmother, Joellen Simons; Sisters, Alexandria Simons and Destiny Taylor; Brother, William Simons. He is also survived by his fiance Kaile Sieving.
